The program runs from 8 am-5:30 pm and includes effective approaches to addressing substance use disorders. This session features Darin Neven, MD, WA-ACEP Board Member. See the course’s full agenda.

Washington Chapter Reception: Oct. 14 at the Space Needle from 5:30-9:30 pm. Consider making a contribution to help make the reception memorable. All WA-ACEP members are invited to the reception, even if they are not planning to attend ACEP13.
InnovatED Exhibits - ACEP is seeking medical professional volunteers to staff the new InnovatED exhibit – ED of the Future - for at least 1 - 1/2 days (0930-1550) during the conference. In exchange for their time, volunteers would be eligible to receive the electronic/virtual CME packet for the conference.
Keep a Physician in Olympia
As the only physician in the state legislature, Dr. Nathan Schlicher has provided emergency physicians a vital and necessary voice on issues that affect your practice, such as the B & O tax and improving the coordination of care for mental health patients. Dr. Schlicher is in a very tight race. Although difficult, regardless of party affiliation, Dr. Schlicher's continued presence in Olympia will be invaluable for the entire emergency medicine community as the PPACA is implemented later this year, boarding of mental health patients, insurance companies adjust their reimbursement models, and hospital mergers continue. Please consider spreading the word and donating today.
Emergency Medicine Leadership Summit is Nov. 6
The state’s ED Directors are invited to attend the 8th Annual EM Leadership Summit Nov. 6 at the Seattle Airport Marriott. This year’s agenda is entitled ED Care in the Changing Health Care Environment and features several prominent speakers, including ACEP Executive Director Dean Wilkerson (left), who will discuss the value of emergency medicine and the ACEP strategic plan for the future.
Here We Go Again: Fair Billing
Fair Billing (formerly known as Balance Billing) is likely to be an issue during the 2014 legislative session. WA-ACEP leaders are already in talks with the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) and state legislators to develop a strategy. WA-ACEP will keep you apprised as the process moves forward.
Help WA-ACEP Find 16 New Members
We are 16 members shy of gaining another ACEP Councillor allocation and an even stronger voice at the 2014 Council Meeting. Send interested physicians to www.acep.org for more information about membership.
